Trauma Informed Care Training Materials

BLOOM has developed training materials and gathered resources for the volunteers, providers and host families that are supporting Palestinian children receiving medical treatment abroad.

In Fall 2023, BLOOM engaged in a formal partnership agreement with HEAL Palestine, a new nonprofit organization founded and run by Steve Sosebee, who is also the original founder of PCRF (Palestinian Childrens Relief Fund).

As part of this collaboration, BLOOM is facilitating the alignment of Palestinian children obtaining medical treatment in the United States with Arab speaking, trauma informed, pro-bono mental health providers.

BLOOM has authored a TIC Training Manual as a resource for the community of providers and volunteers supporting these children. This document provides a high level, culturally competent approach for engaging with children who have endured unimaginable trauma due to the violence they have experienced in Palestine.

Additionally, BLOOM has developed a training video to support providers, volunteers and host families that are sheltering these children during their treatment.

Meet the Trainer:
Lena Derhally,  is a Palestinian-American psychotherapist and author, and core member of the BLOOM Mental Health Advisory Team. Lena has been a lifelong antiwar activist and has been advocating for Palestine since she was a child – her father was a founding board member of Seeds of Peace (a nonprofit organization that brings Israeli and Palestinian children together at a summer camp), her great grandfather was the mayor of Bethlehem, her grandfather was the deputy mayor of Bethlehem, and her great great grandfather was a Greek Orthodox priest in the church of nativity.
